Windsor Parish Church of St John the Baptist
If you’re feeling brave (and have working knees), climb the narrow spiral staircase up to the tower. It’s like climbing a lighthouse, but with less water and more old stone.
At the top, you get a spectacular view of Windsor Castle and the River Thames. You can literally see the castle’s guards changing from above. It’s the ultimate “I’m on top of the world” selfie spot.
Just be warned: the stairs are very steep and very old. One guide told me they’ve been worn down by monks’ feet for 600 years. If you trip, you’re just adding to the history.

The Peaceful Courtyard & A Final Joke
After all that climbing, grab a bench in the churchyard. It’s a little green oasis in the middle of tourist chaos. Listen to the birds, watch the clouds, and ignore the distant sound of ice cream trucks.
One gravestone I spotted read: “He lived life in the fast lane—until he met this one.” I burst out laughing. Yes, there’s humour in old cemeteries. Go figure.
And here’s a silly but truthy observation: even the tombstones seem to be sunbathing. They’re tilted, mossy, and perfectly content. If stones can chill, so can you.
