Think of water like a sponge. As it travels through the ground, it picks up minerals—mostly calcium and magnesium.
Hard water just means it has a lot of those minerals. Soft water has very few, or they’ve been removed.
It’s not dangerous, but it can be a real nuisance around the house. Like that friend who always borrows your stuff and never returns it—annoying, but not life-threatening.
