Explain the History and Origin of the Labor Day Holiday in America
On September 5, 1882, the first Labor Day parade took place in New York City, with thousands of workers marching for their rights. Now, you might be thinking, "Wait, wasn't Labor Day just a random Monday to give people a long weekend?" Not quite – although, let's be real, who doesn't love a three-day weekend? The holiday was actually created to commemorate the working class and all their hard work and dedication. And, fun fact, Canada was actually the first to celebrate Labor Day, a whole nine years before the US!
