St Albans City Railway Station Zone
St Albans City is a melting pot of humanity. You have the Express Commuter, who marches with military precision, briefcase swinging like a weapon. Then there’s the Student, draped over a bench, headphones blasting music loud enough to make the pigeons flinch.
My personal favorite is the Enthusiastic Dog Walker. They breeze through the station with a golden retriever, looking utterly serene. The dog loves the train. Everyone smiles at the dog. For ten seconds, we forget the delay and the parking fees, united in our appreciation of a wagging tail.
The Platform Dance
When the train finally arrives, it’s a ballet of elbows and backpacks. You stand behind the yellow line, trying to judge exactly where the doors will open. If you guess wrong, you’ll be that person doing an awkward shuffle down the platform while everyone else boards. Don’t be that person. Be the person who wins at Platform Tetris.

Once inside, the air smells of damp coats and ambition. You find a seat next to the window, only to realize the power socket is broken. Classic. You resort to staring at the grey English fields, which actually look kind of lovely after a few minutes. London is calling, but St Albans is waving goodbye with a sad little look.
