New York Police Department Size
Now, you can’t have an army without vehicles. The NYPD has a fleet of roughly 10,000 cars, boats, and helicopters. That’s more vehicles than the entire U.S. Marine Corps has ground combat vehicles.
They have a harbor unit with actual boats that chase other boats. It’s like the Navy, but instead of fighting pirates, they’re checking if you paid the $2.50 for that Staten Island Ferry ride.
And the helicopters? They don’t just watch traffic. They hover over your backyard barbecue at 3 AM because someone reported a “loud noise.” That noise was your neighbor arguing with his cat.
The Actual Budget Is a Joke (A Terrifying One)
The NYPD’s annual budget is around $6 billion. That’s more money than the entire GDP of some Caribbean islands. You could buy a lifetime supply of donuts for every person in Ohio and still have change for a few hot dogs.
To put it in perspective, the NYPD’s budget is larger than the defense budgets of countries like Ireland or New Zealand. So if a rogue pigeon army attacks Manhattan, we’re ready for them.
But here’s the funniest part: with all that money, they still can’t find a parking spot for their own patrol cars. They just double-park and leave the lights flashing, which is basically a New York cop’s version of a reserved sign.
